On the BEER MICHI road →

Walk out of Tokyo Station's Yaesu Central Exit, go down into the Yaechika underground mall, and within two minutes you hit a wall of fridges full of American craft beer. Antenna America is run by Nagano Trading, the importer, and the range runs from Sierra Nevada and Stone to hazy and sour beers from smaller US breweries: 300-plus beers in the fridges and ten taps that rotate. Take a can from the fridge to the register and you can drink it there or take it away.

Order and pay at the register, take your pint (¥1,250 and up), and either stand or grab a seat; food works food-court style, and you collect it when your pager goes off. The menu's own No. 1 is the pulled pork sandwich, and there's a double smash cheeseburger. On weekdays from 11:30 to 14:00 there's a lunch set (¥1,500 at our last check), and a 10oz beer with it is ¥650 more. If you don't know the breweries, there's a four-beer tasting set, or just ask the staff. The menu has English names and photos, there are English-speaking staff, and plenty of the customers are visitors from abroad.

There are American table games, and seventeen screens running craft-beer news. Open 11am to 11pm every day, and a better place to wait for a shinkansen than the platform.
